Hi, I’m Dr. Rick Miller. You know, we do a lot of dentistry, all varieties, and one of the things we do is cosmetic dentistry. And if you’ll look, I have a pretty nice smile right now. But you know what? I can relate to patients that don’t have a good smile.
When I was a kid, I was kind of a daredevil. Truth be told, I was probably the dumbest kid in the neighborhood. And they’d say, hey, Rick, I bet you can’t jump off that. And I would. So when I was seven, I broke off my front tooth. When you’re seven, you don’t care too much about that. But then my teeth came in really crowded. I was so bucktoothed that I had to try to purse my lips in pictures to hide my teeth. And when you’re 14, that’s not a confidence builder. So I know firsthand what it’s like to not have a great smile.
I’ve been asked by patients why I became a dentist. Or oftentimes they ask, do I really like it? And my answer is, I would pick my profession all over again. I truly like it. The board requires us to take 12 hours of continuing education every year. I frequently take over 100. So I am kind of a dental nerd. But I like it. I enjoy it. And I think that professionals really owe it to their patients to pour themselves into their craft. Fortunately for me, that comes easy, because I do I enjoy doing what I do.
