The before and after of a full arch restoration.

The Basics of a Roundhouse Bridge

A roundhouse bridge is a full-arch restoration, meaning it replaces an entire set of teeth in either the upper or lower jaw. The restoration itself is a horseshoe-shaped row of connected teeth, made to look and function like real teeth. Unlike traditional dentures, which can be unstable and require adhesives, a roundhouse bridge is securely anchored with dental implants, providing superior comfort, strength, and long-term benefits.

Made from biocompatible titanium, dental implants offer exceptional durability and stability. At Bent Tree Dental, Dr. Rick Miller provides both conventional and mini dental implants, ensuring a customized solution for every patient!

Securing Your Bridge: Conventional vs. Mini Dental Implants

The primary difference between conventional and mini implants is size. Traditional implants can average 5 mm wide whereas mini implants are less than 3 mm. This size difference plays a big role in the overall procedures. Because of the larger size of conventional implants, Dr. Miller has to make an incision in your gums to access the bone and place the implant. This more invasive procedure translates to a longer treatment timeline and healing period.

In addition, conventional implants have a higher price tag because of the procedure’s complexity, the number of appointments needed, and the overall material costs. While they’re still a reliable choice, they aren’t right for all patients—especially those with bone loss. That’s because you need to have enough bone to fit traditional implants in your jaw. If there isn’t enough bone, you may be ineligible or need bone grafting, which adds to the cost and treatment time.

Alternatively, Dr. Miller may recommend innovative mini dental implants, which are perfect for patients with weak or narrow jaws. For these narrow-diameter implants, Dr. Miller simply makes a small hole through your gums. He then screws the mini implant into the bone, creating a strong, stable foundation for false teeth. With this minimally invasive technique, you can look forward to a quicker recovery. And, because of their minimally invasive procedure, shorter treatment timeline, and unique design, mini implants are less painful and less costly!

Roundhouse Bridge Options

Despite their small size, mini implants are strong enough to support a roundhouse bridge. There are two options for securing your bridge. Dr. Miller can make it semi-removable or non-removable, depending on your preferences. With the semi-removable Fix-on-Six® option, Dr. Miller secures your bridge to 6-10 mini implants. Only he will remove the bridge during your regular cleaning visits. Alternatively, a non-removable roundhouse bridge is cemented permanently onto 10-12 mini dental implants. With this “Cadillac option,” you can treat your new smile just like you would your natural teeth!

The Benefits of a Roundhouse Bridge

A roundhouse bridge is a durable, long-lasting tooth replacement option. The false teeth are made from zirconia, an extremely strong ceramic material that is resistant to chipping and cracking. Zirconia has a natural appearance and closely mimics the look of natural teeth.

Zirconia combined with titanium implants is a powerful duo. Dental implants naturally fuse with your jawbone through osseointegration. This biological process encourages new bone tissue to form around the implant, creating a stable foundation for false teeth. As a result, you can enjoy a stronger bite force and improved chewing efficiency, giving you the freedom to eat a wider variety of foods without hesitation.

With its natural appearance and exceptional durability, a roundhouse bridge offers a secure, long-lasting solution for full-arch tooth replacement.
